ANGOLA ILLEGAL STAMPS
2003
Information and Reference of illegal stamps for Angola dating 2003 and 2004
The following images are of illegal stamps produced for Angola. Please remember that the producers of these illegal stamps are not only greedy,
they are crude and sometimes disgusting which is the nature of these people.
To find out what stamps are real and legitimate for Angola visit the UPU WNS website and look at the Angola section.
The Universal Postal Union WNS website
I have found the Colnect online catalog to be helpful as well.
The Colnect Online Catalog for Angola
Check out their Illegal Stamp section as well. It is far from complete but will help you verify many as well.

I have also found the StampWorld Catalog an excellent resource.

Or use a respectable catalog like Scott or Stanley Gibbons. Do not listen to these dealers trying to convince you they are something
other than illegal stamps.
Here we go!
Many of the following illegal stamps can be found as imperforates and as color proof sets as well. Some exist on fake First Day Covers too.
Many times now (2021) the souvenir sheet sets and sheetlet sets are sold individually. Many times the stamps have been removed from the sheetlets
and souvenir sheets. All of these "tactics" are used to avoid detection by UPU circular descriptions and researchers like myself.
Sellers that call these "private", "locals", "Cinderella's", "unauthorized" are deceiving you. They are counterfeit illegal stamps produced by a stamp dealer
that is bent on ripping you off! Some sellers state "we offer them because they are on the market". Well how about you use a different dealer
because that seller is "on the market"? If the stamp societies, auction sites and all other venues kicked these sellers off of their sites
then they would have to comply or lose their ability to sell anything.
The following images are free for the use of all to use to alert the public to them. If anyone wants to make a public list of users on eBay, Delcampe
and elsewhere who are selling these issues....fine by me since the UPU, PWMO and others appear to have given up or have not been updated in years.
If you have purchased any of these stamps from a dealer or if that dealer offers them, you should avoid that dealer! You will
only be supporting illegal stamp makers who are only ripping you off.
2003
In 2003 the British producers virtually stopped creating illegal stamps in the name of Angola. It is not known why except that perhaps they
became scared from notice of the vast numbers of previous counterfeits they had already flooded the market with. Possibly because the WNS stamp
system had been activated and online showing the real stamps issued by Angola which look nothing like the illegal stamps these criminals produced.
Whatever the reasons are, only a couple sets have been defined as illegal for 2003.
On this page I also show one dating 2004 and give a little advice on the 2004 Sapoa Joint issue as well.
2003 Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets White Owl Souvenir Sheet of 12 Plus 4 Labels
Noting that many dealers are stating this was created in 2000, 2001 or 2002. They are incorrect simply for the fact that the Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets
movie was not released until November 15, 2002. Because the style is the same as older counterfeits and the year not inscribed on them, this "mistake" is common.
These criminal producers were not that "fast" in producing illegal stamps at the time and so it is obvious by this "large" production on this topic
that it did not hit the market until 2003.

2003 Pontification of Pope John Paul II Genuine Souvenir Sheet of 8 Plus Labels
In 2003 Angola officially issued this souvenir sheet containing four pairs with a label in between them. The pairs are listed as Scott 1260.

In 2003 the British producers created these souvenir sheets in direct conflict with the genuine souvenir sheet shown above. They
are also verified as illegal on the Colnect Catalog website. Avoid!

And that is all I could find for the year 2003.
2004
In a search for illegal stamps dating 2004, I found only one souvenir sheet. Again in direct conflict with a genuine set issued by Angola.

2004 SAPOA Birds First Joint Stamp Issue
This is a word of warning on this souvenir sheet.

2004 SAPOA Birds First Joint Stamp Issue Unissued Souvenir Sheet of 8 First Day Cover
In my research on illegal stamps in the name of Angola I came across the SAPOA Birds First Joint Stamp issue.
The Southern Africa Postal Operators Association (SAPOA) is a SADC regional body responsible for the postal sector. It was created
in 2001 under the SADC Protocol on Transport and Communication and Meteorology.
The first joint issue in 2004 had eight participating countries – Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia
and Zimbabwe. Each country issued a miniature sheet, with hexagonal stamps showing each country’s national bird and other birds.
All of the stamps were printed by a lithographic process by Čnchedé of The Netherlands. The stamps were designed by Anja Denker,
who was also responsible for many Namibian stamps.
Here is a write-up on what happened with the issue I found on the Joint Stamp Issues Society website.
"Collectors were wondering how difficult it was to get the stamps and miniature sheet from Angola. The situation was clarified very recently: All stamps
of these series had been printed in the Netherlands by the company "Koningklijke Joh. Enschedé". During the first day official session all souvenir sheets
were presented to the press (including Angola - see picture below). Some of these sheets were even sold to public on that day, before becoming available in
individual countries.
Unfortunately Angola never paid the printing of their items and, as a consequence, the Angolan miniature sheets never reached the country. After 5 years of
waiting, the printer decided by end of 2009 to destroy the whole stocks of apparently 20,000 samples. It is estimated that the only surviving samples amount
the approximate number of 50, the ones distributed on the first day of issue. This issue must therefore be considered as non-issued and the whole series
officially limited to 7 countries."
This is where I conflict with it.
In digging a bit further I found that the statements that only around 50 of them exist does not add up. I found this souvenir sheet being sold all over the internet
on stamp venues everywhere. There is no way only around 50 were saved with the availability to buy them in recent times (2021). Here is an example of one
lot on eBay. The seller has/had ten of them (5 sold) at 65.00 GBP (approximately $89.00). So tell me....how did this dealer get 10 out of the 50 back
in 2004??
2004 SAPOA Birds First Joint Stamp Issue Unissued Souvenir Sheet of 8 Sale on eBay in January and February 2021
But to my dismay....I took it further. I looked at completed listings.
2004 SAPOA Birds First Joint Stamp Issue Unissued Souvenir Sheet of 8 Sale on eBay in December 2020
And here is the completed listings as it looks on eBay in a search for "Angola 2004 SAPOA".
2004 SAPOA Birds First Joint Stamp Issue Unissued Souvenir Sheet of 8 Completed Listings on eBay in February 2021
So this shows that this one dealer has been selling 20 of them in the last 90 days! How many have been sold by this dealer in the last 5 possibly 10 years????
Do you see my point?
Here are closed listings on Delcampe. These are just the sold items since 2016!
2004 SAPOA Birds First Joint Stamp Issue Unissued Souvenir Sheet of 8 Sold Listings on Delcampe in February 2021
Finally here are current running sales on Delcampe for this sheet given the cheaper sales are not the Angola sheet.
2004 SAPOA Birds First Joint Stamp Issue Unissued Souvenir Sheet of 8 Running Listings on Delcampe in February 2021
This research does not include all the sales on other auction venues, stamp sales sites, private stamp websites, major and minor stamp auction houses
and a multitude of other locations. Indeed probably with a total of several hundred of these sheets being sold right now! Therefore, you have to see
that the "rumor" of the destruction of the 20,000 sheets is more than likely....false. I have seen this be the case on many stamp issues. Dealers obtain
the stocks through "dark channels" and then slowly sell them at extreme prices leaving the rumors and lies to gain those profits, all the while, sitting
on thousands in their back rooms. Little did they know (or want to know) that with access via the internet, their deceit would be uncovered.
Because of these facts and evidence this SAPOA unissued souvenir sheet should be valued at less than $20.00. It is not.....rare.
The production of illegal stamps in the name of Angola did and has not ended with the disappearance of the British producers. New criminal
producers and their counterfeit stamps appear starting in 2008.
