The GWR Lode Star was designed by George Jackson Churchward and was built in 1907.
Churchward copied the French engineer de Glehn's four cylinder design which produced very powerful and fast locomotives.
The Lode Star was withdrawn in 1951 after covering over 2,005,898 miles. The locomotive has been preserved
at the Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon, England, where it is a permanent exhibit.
